Some may say that these five musicians make up the “Australian Mumford & Sons.” Yet this intriguing five-piece can very well be on par with the London counterpart when it comes to positive feedback concerning their songs and a diehard fan-base. Listening to this band, one can say the use of chordal harmonies, imaginative riffs, and sophisticated folk is what will drive this group into a steady future.
Bon Iver
Although Justin Vernon may have a prolific number of projects he is associated with, he will always be known in the minds of fans as the genius behind Bon Iver. Vernon had formed this incredible folk band out of hard times such as the breakup of his previous band and the recovering of a disease called mononucleosis. Yet hard work pays off with two critically acclaimed albums and a dedicated fan-base. Have a good winter.
Maps & Atlases
Usually this peculiar band is defined as a “math rock” band yet there is no denying that “folk” has a say in the melodies of their songs. Dave Davison’s vocals have evidently grown from the past couple of EPs the band had released and the band itself seems to have evolved maturely, slowly gaining the sound they were meant to create with acclaim. Be sure to listen to the many side projects each band member is involved with.
Arcade Fire
A lot can be said about this band such as how they fuse elements of different themes and lyrical backgrounds beautifully into a span of three universally acclaimed albums or how despite the constant change of members they manage to complement each others role in energetic live shows. Nevertheless they all seem to immensely love what they do as musicians and friends. Win Butler, kudos to you.
